EDITOR CONTROLS
What each editor button does
Make the editor larger
Hides the introduction beside the editor, uses the available page width, and increases the editor height. Select Collapse to restore the original layout.
Copy the complete draft
Copies all editor text to the clipboard, including line breaks. You can then paste it into another website or app.
Reset the editor
Removes all text and resets the live statistics. If read aloud is active, playback stops as well.
READ ALOUD
Reading parameters and playback
Read aloud uses the Web Speech API built into your browser. Available voices depend on your browser, operating system, and installed language packs.

Each option sets both an estimated WPM for Reading time and a Web Speech API rate for playback. These values are related presets, but an API rate is not a guaranteed words-per-minute speed.
Language
Auto detect identifies common writing systems with Unicode script detection and uses language clues for Latin-script text. Choose a language manually if automatic detection is not correct.
Voice
Auto selects an available voice that matches the chosen or detected language. The selected voice stays fixed during the current reading session, but different voices can speak the same text at different speeds even when they use the same rate.
Read / Stop
Read starts from the beginning. Markdown markers, decorative symbols, and symbol-only divider lines are skipped while the original editor text remains unchanged. The current passage is highlighted and scrolls into view when needed. When playback finishes, Reading time and the timer show the real elapsed duration.
How the estimate is calculated
Reading time = word count ÷ words per minute × 60 seconds
- Slow: 150 WPM
- Average: 200 WPM
- Fast: 250 WPM
Why the estimate may not match playback
Web Speech API rates are not standardized. The same rate can produce different durations depending on the browser, operating system, installed voice, and language. Punctuation pauses, sentence length, and the way text is divided into speech segments also affect playback time.
When it updates: Complete the read aloud without pressing Stop, and Reading time is replaced with the real elapsed playback duration.
RESULTS EXPLAINED
How every result is calculated
The same rules are applied each time the text changes.
Language-aware word segments
Uses the browser’s language-aware word segmentation when available, with a Unicode-aware fallback for sequences of letters and numbers.
All Unicode code points
Counts letters, numbers, punctuation, symbols, spaces, and line breaks. A combined emoji may contain more than one counted code point.
Characters excluding whitespace
Starts with the character count, then removes whitespace such as spaces, tabs, and line breaks.
Sentence-ending punctuation
Separates sentences at a period, question mark, or exclamation mark. Final text without ending punctuation also counts as a sentence.
Text blocks separated by blank lines
One or more blank lines start a new paragraph. A single line break inside a text block does not.
WPM estimate, then actual playback time
Formula: word count ÷ words per minute × 60 seconds. Before playback, Slow uses 150 WPM, Average 200 WPM, and Fast 250 WPM. After a complete read aloud, the result is updated to the real elapsed time.
LOCAL DRAFTS
Save text in your browser
Keep a list of drafts on the current device without signing in or uploading their contents.
Available to everyone
The Save button and Saved texts menu are always available below the editor. Registration and login are not required.
Store the current text locally
Select Save to store the editor content in this browser. Saving a draft loaded from the list updates that draft.
Choose from your saved list
Open Saved texts and select an item. The first non-empty line is used as its list title, and its complete content replaces the editor text.
Understand where drafts live
Saved text is not synced to other devices or browsers. Clearing browser storage removes it. The saved list is available whenever you return with the same browser.
